1996年に日本国司法試験合格後、東京の法律事務所で一般企業法務等を担当し、2004年渡米。ロースクール卒業後にニューヨーク州司法試験に合格し、企業法務、特許訴訟等の知財業務を担当。2015年、TYPHA IP LLCを知財専門事務所として立ち上げ、年間250件以上の特許を取得する弁護士2名、スタッフ5名の事務所として運営していたが、プラクティス分野を広げるべく、法律部門としてはスタッフも含めMichael Best & Friedrich LLP事務所に移籍。Michael Best & Friedrich LLP事務所のパートナー弁護士として働く傍ら、TYPHA IP LLCを翻訳及びコンサルタント事務所として経営。コンサルタント業務については、日本企業が米国にて特許部門を立ち上げ、直接米国特許出願を行う方法をアドバイス。

Emily Rice エミリー・ライス

Translator for TYPHA IP LLC

Currently studying at SOAS University of London in MA Translation program. 


Ms. Rice serves as a translator for TYPHA IP LLC, with her expertise primarily directed to translating patent specifications related to semiconductor technologies and display technologies, as well as other technical areas. Outside of her patent-related proficiencies, she is also an experienced translator for materials such as technical notes, news articles, and presentations concerning a number of topics including renewable energy, intellectual property law, U.S. regulation and legal reform, missile and defense technologies, semiconductor technologies, and display technologies.


Prior to pursuing a degree in Japanese Studies at Binghamton University, Ms. Rice began her independent study of Japanese in 2007. She spent over two years during her high school and undergraduate careers living in Japan, where she attended Ikuno High School in Osaka, Nihon University, and Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies. Upon graduating university in 2016, she briefly participated in an internship at TV Asahi’s Washington D.C. bureau before beginning her career at TYHPA IP LLC.
